Gochujang is a thick paste made of chile peppers, rice flour, fermented soybeans, plus salt and usually a sweetener. Korean cooks use it as a flavor element, often stirring it into sauces and soups or sauteeing it with aromatics at the start of a recipe. Traditionally homemade, gochujang is now usually purchased at the grocery store in a little red plastic tub.
