The Mulato pepper is actually a variety of the Poblano peppers, but it is usually sold dried. It is not an Ancho pepper, but it may sound like because anchos are dried poblanos. However, an ancho is a dried form of the regular poblano. It is like saying that jaloros is a variety of jalapeños, and it is like saying chipotles are not dried jaloros, and like tapacitos are dried serranos and sport peppers are a variety of serranos and that habadrios are dried habaneros and that the Scotch bonnet is a variety of habaneros.
